INEC ready for Edo Governorship election – Prof. Yakubu

THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has assured the stakeholders that it is fully prepared for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting in Benin City, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, stated that the commission has implemented 11 out of 13 statutory activities on schedule, with only two outstanding activities remaining.

Professor Yakubu disclosed that 18 political parties are participating in the election, with 2,629,025 registered voters in the state.

He commended the stakeholders for their level of mobilization during the voter registration and PVC collection process.

The INEC Chairman also assured that the commission has made arrangements for the security of personnel, materials and citizens during the election.

He announced that the accreditation tags for stakeholders are ready and will be distributed soon.

Furthermore, Professor Yakubu disclosed that INEC has conducted a successful mock accreditation test in 12 polling units across the state to test-run its deployment of technology.

He urged the stakeholders to play their part in ensuring peaceful and credible election and reminded them of the Peace Accord signing ceremony scheduled for September 12, 2024.
