THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates and their running mates for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election scheduled for November 16.

This announcement was made by Mr. Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement issued in Abuja.

The personal details of the candidates and their running mates have been displayed at INEC offices in Ondo State, both at the state and local government levels.

According to Olumekun, in compliance with Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) conducted fresh primaries to replace their initially nominated candidates and their running mates before the June 10 deadline.

Additionally, five parties—the African Action Congress (AAC), the Action Democratic Party (ADP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP)—replaced only their running mates.

In total, 17 political parties are participating in the election. Notably, no political party has nominated a female candidate, and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has nominated a candidate with a disability (a paraplegic).

The final list includes details of the candidates’ ages and academic qualifications and has been published at INEC’s Akure office and uploaded to the commission’s website and social media platforms for public access.

With the nomination process concluded, political parties are now allowed to commence public campaigns from Wednesday, June 19, until midnight on November 14.

Olumekun reminded parties, candidates, agents, and supporters to adhere to the legal provisions and the commission’s guidelines during campaigns, emphasizing the need for civility, avoidance of inciting language, non-violence, and refraining from voter inducement as stipulated in Sections 92-97 of the Electoral Act 2022.
