INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to conducting peaceful and transparent elections in 2025.

Speaking at the first regular meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, for 2025, Yakubu emphasized the importance of collaboration between INEC and security agencies to ensure the success of upcoming elections.

The INEC chairman highlighted two major elections scheduled for 2025: the Anambra State Governorship election on November 8, 2025 and the end-of-tenure Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, on February 21, 2026. Yakubu provided details on the polling units, ward centres and collation centres for both elections.

Yakubu also addressed the issue of vote buying, expressing satisfaction with the commission’s collaboration with law enforcement agencies.

He noted that their partnership has led to the successful prosecution of offenders in three states. The Chairman emphasized the need for continued cooperation to combat vote buying and delegate-buying during party primaries.

In addition, Yakubu stated that the commission is preparing for bye-elections to fill vacancies in the National and State legislative houses.

He assured that the delimitation details will be made available to guide operational deployment for the forthcoming elections.

The meeting was attended by representatives of security, intelligence, law enforcement, and safety agencies, as well as National Commissioners of INEC and members of the INEC Press Corps.
