THE National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia, on Wednesday, abruptly adjourned sitting following the ill health of Mr Liborous Oshoma, counsel to Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The matter was the hearing in a petition filed by the petitioners, Chris Nkwonta and his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The petitioners are seeking the nullification of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe’s election as senator for Abia South senatorial district.
INEC had declared Abaribe winner after he pulled 53,086 votes to Nwonta’s 27,998 votes cast in the March 23 National Assembly elections.
At the resumed hearing on Wednesday, the attention of the tribunal chairman was drawn to the health condition of Oshoma, who was experiencing cold and was shivering in court.
Abaribe’s counsel, Mr Uche Ihemamba, consequently applied for adjournment to enable Oshoma get medical attention.
Justice Adeyinka Aderigbe, the Chairman of the tribunal, granted his application and adjourned the matter until Aug. 5, for continuation of the hearing. (NAN)
