AHMED Idris, the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), has called on Police officers’ wives in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be alive to the unique role of influencing the life style of their husbands.
He said this in a statement issued by Mr Oise Johnson, Head, Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), on Thursday in Abuja.
Idris made the call when he received the leadership of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), FCT chapter.
He said they could play their role by moulding the attitude, conduct and ways of life of their husbands.
He commended them for having the well being of their husbands, both serving and retired, at heart by striving to improve their living conditions through the projects they embarked upon.
Idris said their projects were part of nation building and contribution towards national development.
He, however, pleaded with the women to be gainfully employed even if they have to engage in petty trading within designated areas of the barracks to support their husbands.
He also enjoined them to embrace the three cardinal goals of the government of President Mohammadu Buhari which are economic development, security and fight against corruption at all levels.
Idris urged them to run a transparent group, backed by a constitution, proper bank account and to organise periodic conventions where they could mingle freely and rub minds together.
He promised to identify with their cause, adding that he would assist them by sinking three boreholes in locations of their choice with the assurance to do more if those provided were properly maintained.
Earlier, Mrs Hauwa Abubakar, the leader of the delegate, listed the problems of Police officers’ wives in their various communities in the FCT.
She said they experienced acute water shortage, inadequate equipment for officers and husbands of the POWA members to discharge their duties and inability of “take home pay” to take husbands and officers anywhere.
Abubakar implored Idris to come to their aid and support them to ameliorate the suffering of the Police officers’ wives and their families so that they could support their bread winners to discharge their duties adequately. (NAN)
