Info Stealer Malware: 7 ways to protect yourself, organization – NITDA

THE National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, has warned Nigerians over a recent cybersecurity threat known as Info Stealer Malware.

Info Stealer Malware is a malicious software designed to covertly infiltrate systems and pilfer sensitive information, including personal and confidential data from people.

Before now, Nigerians have witnessed series of cybersecurity threats, like hacking etc. NITDA has been giving Nigerians tip on how to protect their gadgets from being hacked.

Irked by the new trend, NITDA via its X Platform announced the invention of Info Stealer Malware ad listed seven steps to protect oneself.

NITDA  said: “We would like to draw your attention to a critical cybersecurity threat known as Info Stealer Malware.

“This type of malicious software has become increasingly rampant in recent times, posing a significant threat to both organizations and individuals. Info Stealer Malware is designed to covertly infiltrate systems and pilfer sensitive information, including personal and confidential data.

“As the name suggest, Info Stealer Malware is specifically crafted to steal valuable information from infected system. Once it infiltrates a device, it can quietly collect usernames, passwords, credit card details, social security numbers, and other sensitive data without the users knowledge. It is crucial to be aware of this threat and take proactive measures to safeguard personal and organizational data and assets.”

How to protect yourself and organization

To mitigate the risk of Info Stealer Malware infections, we urge all to follow these best practices:

….Be cautious when opening emails or clicking on the links from unknown or suspicious sources.

….Avoid downloading files or software from un-trusted websites.

…..Keep your operating system, software, and anti-virus programmes up-to-date with latest security patches.

….Conduct regular ant-virus scans on your devices.

….Use strong, unique passwords for all accounts and enable two factor authentication whenever possible.

….Regularly back up important data and store backups in a secure location.
