THE Managing Director of Olive ICT Foundation, Abuja, Mr. Adam Peter, says information security is a critical concern for all public and private organisations who are into service provision.
Peter, whose foundation is into cyber security training, made this statement during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said the protection of sensitive data and systems of its clientele by any organisation was vital to their successes and survival.
He, therefore, urged all government and private institutions to ensure that all members of staff obtained basic information security training.
“Obtaining basic information security certifications for staffers can provide numerous benefits to an organization.
“This will also help to improve the effectiveness of its security program, and enhance its reputation with the general public,’’ he said.
NAN reports that Information security is a cyber security action taken by organisations to protect its sensitive information from unauthorized activities, including hacking, modification, recording, and any disruption or destruction.
The goal is to ensure the safety and privacy of critical data such as customer account details, financial data or intellectual property.
One of the key benefits of information security certification is that it helps organizations to manage online risk effectively.
According to Peter, information security measures can help organisations to avoid costly data breaches and other security incidents, and maintain the trust of customers and other stakeholders.
He said that another organisational benefit of staff obtaining information security certification and putting it to use is that it helps organisations to comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
“Many countries have laws and regulations that require organizations to protect personal data and other sensitive information.
“For example, by following the guidelines set out in ISO 27001, which is a global standard, organisations demonstrate that they are taking appropriate measures to protect their information and they meet global requirements and standards.
“ By demonstrating that they have implemented robust security controls, organizations can build investors confidence that they operate a safe and secure environment for business
“ This credibility can help organizations to attract and retain customers, and develop stronger partnerships,’’ Peter said. (NAN)
