INNOCENT Chukwuma, chairman of Innoson Group has said the company plans to commence production of quality and affordable cars in 2018.
Chukwuma made this known when he received an award from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, on December 13 in Lagos.
According to him the production will start off in January, so as to reduce importation of expensive cars into the country.
“I am going to launch a car in a month’s time that people can easily purchase in Nigeria with small amount.
“I am looking at a car to cost about N3 million. The car will be big enough to have air conditioner, automatic gear and other items of comfort to make it easier for all.
“I am not just interested in the Nigerian market alone, but the African market at large,” he said.
He, then, commended the Federal Government for its effort at making Nigeria an automobile manufacturing destination, while calling on Nigerians to support manufacturers by patronising the sector.
Chukwuma, then, expressed happiness at his recognition by such an organisation as NIPR in giving him this award.
He added that the award would spur him to do more in his automobile manufacturing business which would remain the only way of ensuring economic growth in the country.
