MRS. Immaculata Ebegba, former Deputy Director of Police Inspectorate at the Police Affairs Ministry, assured the public that police were intensifying efforts  to tackle the rising spate of insecurity in the country.

She  said this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Wednesday at a two days workshop organised by the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs for members of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Asaba, Delta.

Ebegba, who was invited to the event as a guest, said effective police public relations helped in solving complex crime issues in society.

She said the workshop had been in her care until when she was posted to another ministry.

NAN reports that the workshop commenced on Tuesday in Asaba with the theme “Improving the Nigeria Police Public Relations”.

Ebegba explained that the relationship between the Police and the public was key to determining the success of policing in the country.

“The essence of the training was to equip the Police Force for improved transparency, accountability and sincerity of action, in order to better respond to community issues and secure lives and property.

“The strengthening of community policing which has been identified as a panacea to the prolonged security challenges, can only function effectively and efficiently if the relationship that exists between the Police and the Public is cordial and strong.”

She expressed optimism that the workshop would help to close the trust gap between the public and the Nigeria Police Force so as to facilitate intelligence gathering capacity of the NPF for effective crime prevention and policing. (NAN)
