OGUN State government has cleared dilapidated structures and bushes surrounding Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, disclosed this in Abeokuta on Monday.
Odunlami explained that the government took proactive measures as part of the government’s responsibility to monitor and secure public infrastructures against threats and danger.
He also said the steps which included clearing of abandoned and dilapidated structures, and forest-like growth around the centre, was necessitated by a ‘Save Our Soul’ letter received from the Nigerian Correctional Service in Ibara.
Odunlami said the ministry also demolished the dilapidated and abandoned structures of the old secretariat at Oke-Ilewo, which had been taken over by trees and thick foliage.
“The Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration will continue to take proactive measures towards ensuring the safety of lives and property,” the commissioner said.
