Insecurity: Transporter urges Nigerian travellers to shun fear

MR Sunday Umebeh, Director, Anambra City Transport Company (ACTC), has urged Nigerians wishing to embark on interstate travels not to entertain fear, saying that the highways are not as insecure as some prospective travelers perceive.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos that the fear of insecurity in the nation had adversely affected the land transport business.
“Before now, we used to load about eight to 10 vehicles a day, but now we hardly fill one, sometimes two because of fear from the stories people hear.
“For the Lagos to Abuja route, we hardly get clients, they just trickle in,” he said.
Umebeh, however, said that situation on the roads was not as bad as people think because his vehicles had not experienced any incident of attack on the way.
“Once we fill the vehicles, we go without any problems; my vehicles have been traveling to east and coming back safely.
“We go as far as Owerri, we also pick up passengers back to Lagos without issues,” he told NAN.
He urged the government to find a lasting solution to the issue of insecurity to improve the socio-economic situation of the nation. (NAN)
