PROF. Florence Obi, Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar, has sought the support and collaboration of the Nigerian Army in tackling issues of insecurity in the institution’s campus.

Obi sought the support and collaboration on Friday in Calabar, when she paid a courtesy visit on Brig.-Gen. Everest Okoro, the Commander, 13 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Calabar,

She lauded the efforts of the Brigade at securing the institution, which she said has engendered peace and calmness within and around the university.

The vice chancellor urged the brigade commander and his team not to relent in their valued support to the institution.

Obi particularly commended the army’ “Operation Akpaku”, for the prompt response to distress calls and peculiar interest in the institution.

She also appreciated the goodwill and hospitality being shown to the university’s Pro-Chancellor, retired Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, whenever he comes for official engagement.

In his response, Okoro, said that the visit would strengthen the existing bond between the brigade and the institution.

He said that the brigade was aware of the security challenges in the country in general as well as the university.

The Brigade Commander added that the Army was re-strategising to deal with threats around the waterways and other areas in the Brigade’s areas of responsibility.

He assured the VC of more security in the university and called for cooperation in the areas of information and intelligence sharing. (NAN)
