Insecurity: Zamfara traditional leaders, CBOs, FBOs trained in peace building

TRADITIONAL Leaders and Community- and Faith-Based organizations in Zamfara, have been trained on countering violence extremism towards ensuring peace building at communities level.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was organized by two CSOs based in the state, “Voluntary Aid Initiatives (VAI)” and “Health Integrity for Women and Children Development Initiative”.

The training was supported by West Africa Network for Peace building (WANEP-NIGERIA) and National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START).

Speaking at the closing ceremony of two-day training in Gusau on Friday, the facilitator of the training and Chief Executive Officer of VAI, Mr Musa Aboki, said it was aimed at preventing violence at communities.

“We have succeeded in selection and training of stakeholders from various entities for the training.

“We also succeeded in training them on counting violence extremism, we expect them to extend similar training to their respective communities.

“A total of 25 participants selected for the training from CBOs and FBOs as well as traditional rulers from communities that are prone to security challenges,” Aboki said.

Aboki commended participants for their active participation during the two-day training.

Also Speaking, the CEO, Health Integrity for Women and Children Development Initiative, and also a facilitator of the training, Hajiya Aishatu Abdu-Gusau, urged trainees to extend the knowledge they have learned from the training to their respective communities.

She noted that the participants are expected to create awareness to all stakeholders at community levels through advocacy and sensitization programmes.

“We expect them to sensitize youths and women groups in their respective communities with a view of addressing the violence and promoting peace building”, Hajiya Abdu-Gusau said (NAN)
