THE Federal Government’s rehabilitation programme for the North East says it has supported over 5,000 households and sank 300 water boreholes in affected communities of Adamawa.
Mr Maurice Vunobolki, the Adamawa Project Coordinator, North East Multi-Sectoral Crises Recovery Project, disclosed this in Yola on Wednesday.
He said the project, designed by the federal government, was funded by the World Bank to support and improve the livelihood of affected communities in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.
Vunobolki said the project in terms of rehabilitation in 2019, empowered about 4,000 small scale traders.
“In 2019, the project has recorded tremendous infrastructural interventions in areas of primary and secondary healthcare, education and human empowerment in seven local government areas affected by insurgency in Adamawa.
“We have rehabilitated 35 primary and secondary schools, 10 primary healthcare centres, two hospitals and two local government secretariats.
“In the year under review, the project has equally empowered over 9,000 farmers with farming supplements, 5,000 households with basic needs and about 4,000 small scale traders with take-off grants across the affected communities.’’
Vunobolki said the rehabilitation of Mubi-Baza 33.5 kilometre road, Garkida town six-kilometre access road and Michika general hospital 2.3-kilometre road was currently ongoing.
According to the coordinator, the rehabilitation and upgrading of eight towns water supply projects which was awarded in 2019, have reached 40 per cent completion.
He said about 72 ventilated latrines and District Heads Palaces were constructed in the affected communities.
Vunobolki said that the organisation would train the beneficiary communities and appropriate government officials on how to maintain the infrastructures for long-lasting usage.
“The project targets over 1.5 million people affected by insurgency in seven local government areas in Northern Adamawa state,” he said. (NAN)
