THE Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Bauchi State, Mr Ameh James has called for closer synergy between security agencies to ensure conduct of peaceful and credible elections in the country.

This is contained in a statement by the Spokesman of the Corps, DSC Ibrahim Gabdo on Tuesday in Bauchi.

He stressed the need for the security and law enforcement agencies to synergise towards protection of lives and properties as well as hit-free elections in the state.

“We had an Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state.

“The security agencies reiterated their commitment to finetune ways to give maximum security during the forthcoming general election,” he said.

The commandant said that INEC had already concluded all the necessary arrangements to ensure credible elections in the country.

“The REC also called for the collaborative efforts of the security agencies in the state to achieve the desired goals.

“The synergy would be effective in the fight against any form of security threat before, during and after the elections,” he said.

He urged the lead agency in the ICCES to accommodate all security agencies in metropolitan and hinterlands for effective coverage of the elections.

According to him, election security requires a multi-agency approach.

“Hence, it is imperative in view of election security to be on the same page by working together to avoid unnecessary ambiguity in roles and responsibilities,” he said.

He said the Corps in collaboration with the media was creating awareness to enlighten the voters on the need to be peaceful during the election processes. (NAN)
