Governor Willie Obiano builds the International Conference Centre as one of the projects his administration will be remembered
NKEM Okeke, Anambra State deputy governor, has described the ongoing International Conference Centre, ICC, as one of the greatest legacy projects of Gov. Willie Obiano.
“This project will be a sight to behold when completed,’’ Okeke said during oversight inspection of Anambra ICC at Agu- Awka.
He stressed that Governor Obiano directed him to ascertain the level of progress made by the contractor handling the project.
“There is no project of this kind anywhere in the Southeast. With a 7,000 seating capacity, it is the largest.
“Anambra State government is committed to timely delivery of the project. This ICC when completed will attract conferences, events and indoor trade activities thereby boosting the state’s internally generated revenue, IGR, as well add value to the state capital, Awka,’’ he said.
Okeke tasked contractor handling the project to engage more personnel to handle the work in order to ensure completion in good time.
He also called on the contractor to do the needful to ensure that the project would be delivered in time and within the required specification.
Emeka Ezenwanne, commissioner for Housing, described the ICC as a mega project, saying that such could be seen in the cities like Dubai and other developed countries.
He said: “a project of this magnitude is bound to have challenges, which once resolved can help to accelerate the pace of work at the site’’.
Amaechi Okwuosa, managing director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, ACTDA, commended government’s plan to make Awka the best state capital in the country.
“The project will serve various purposes like Tourist Attraction, host conferences and events. It will also add value to the state’s economy and beautification.”
Ifeanyi Ukoma, lead consultant, urged the contractor to stick to work programme to enable the project to be delivered as scheduled.
