Efe Igbinova, a digital marketing consultant, on Wednesday advised online shoppers to beware of fake sellers also known as ‘Audio’ Sellers who advertise goods they don’t have.

Igbinova, the Managing Director, Harissa Communications gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Benin.

He said that millions of consumers had their credit cards and bank account details compromised by falling victims to online scammers.

“Social media is filled with brands offering products and services, but there are also fake sellers or what many people now call “audio” sellers.

“These sellers advertise goods they don’t have and receive money from buyers for the goods and then abscond with the buyers money without delivering the goods.”

He said customers should do due diligence when they visit any e-commerce portal or social media page of marketers by reading people’s review of their services and their general acceptability.

“When we see the products or goods that we intend to buy, we sometimes get carried away with excitement that we fail to do due diligence on the marketers.

*This is by far the most important aspect of shopping online.

*Read reviews of what previous buyers are saying about the marketer’s services and make up your mind whether you still want to deal with them or go elsewhere,” Igbinovia said. (NAN)
