A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Gholahan Yishawu, has said that quality education for all remained key in achieving the 2030 Social Development Goals (SDGs) agenda in the country.
Yishawu, Chairman, Lagos State House of Assembly Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, said this in a statement in Lagos on Friday in commemoration of the Jan. 24 International Day of Education.
Yishawu said that education was not only important goal in the 2030 SDGs agenda, but remained most pivotal in the achievement of all other 16 goals by the United Nations.
The lawmaker noted that if the youth were well educated, crimes and social vices would be largely eradicated.
He said government should invest more on education because it was the only agenda that could eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development by 2030 world-wide.
The lawmaker said that education remained the greatest legacy the country could give the next generation that would leave a lasting impact on them and the populace.
Yishawu explained that providing education should be the primary focus after which everything else seamlessly falls into place.
He added that he placed premium on education through his annual free distribution of JAMB forms to his constituents.
He said: “I do this for my constituents because they aspire for higher education and we are in the 7th edition of it this year.
“Education is key because with young people actively engaged in the pursuit of education, their young minds would be exposed to innovations and inventions that will benefit the society.’’
The lawmaker said it was obvious that the country could not do without education and that was why the government placed premium on it. (NAN)
