THE President, UNESCO Read and Earn Federation, Mr Abdulsalami Ladigbolu has called for massive investment in education as the only solution to youth negative and unpatriotic activities.

Ladigbolu was speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday, against the backdrop of the ongoing protest.

He added that quality education must be provided across board in such a way that Nigerian youths would get engaged rather than being instrument of violence whenever protest arose.

He advised the government to use these trying times to turn things around between the administration and the youths by improving youths’ civic engagements and boosting their communication strategies.

According to him, government can do this by letting the youths realise that they are working to effect the change and improvement youths have been waiting for to come to reality.

“There is a popular saying that education is the bedrock of any development, but what is the bedrock of education?

“The caregivers, teachers are the bedrock of education. The government should vigorously improve their investment on continuous building of their capacity through various globally informed programmes and activities.

“This will align with nation’s priorities and aspirations.  With this, we are sure that the keener revelation of the society’s soul (youths) will gradually improve the nation’s prosperity,” he said.

He, however, charged the youths to work on a purposeful unity while mending gaps to fast track the transformation of the country.

“It is good to have political opinions but more useful is to listen to what others think.

“With that, the youths can start to mend the gaps and have a meeting point to forge ahead and fast track the transformation of their beloved nation.

“President Bola Tinubu has also said during his campaign in Olubadan Palace in Oyo state, that he would create a more robust mechanism for youth to achieve their aim to be at the helm of affairs of the nation,” he added.

Speaking on gaining the trust of the youths to advance country’s development, Ladigbolu urged the government to be more proactive on youth policies so they could conceive the ultra-light beam for sustainable development.(NAN)
