IPOB raises alarm over arrest of members in Rivers State
Politics
FOLLOWING the proscription of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in Rivers State, the group has raised an alarm that the Nigerian Army has arrested more than 300 of its members in Obigbo, in Rivers State. The group accused Governor Nyesom Wike of the state of highhandedness in dealing with its members.
In a statement signed by Emma Powerful, media and publicity secretary, IPOB, the group alleged that innocent members have been arrested and chained like criminals that they are not. He said that these innocent youths had been tied up and made to face the sun while the Army is taking them in batches to who-knows-where.
“We want to put the international community on alert of what is happening to Biafrans in Obigbo in Rivers State on Thursday, October 29, 2020. Governor Wike and the Nigerian military should be held responsible for whatever happens to these innocent youths. Those blaming IPOB for the spontaneous reaction of angry Nigerian youths across the country over the shooting of unarmed peaceful protesters in Lagos should stop the execution of these innocent Biafran youths. We have said it before that no Biafran should be killed by Nigerian security agents again.
“Any such barbarity will no longer be tolerated. We are equally aware of the killing of Biafran youths at Ukwa West and East as well as Aba all in Abia State where security agents are burning them in boro pits. Killing of Biafran youths was also reported in Imo all in the name of hunting for IPOB members. Our message to the governors of the affected states is simply. They must account for innocent Biafrans killed by security forces in their states at the appointed time,” he said.
