IRAN’S Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday received a dose of COVIran Barakat vaccine, a vaccine domestically developed in Iran.

The vaccine COVIran Barakat vaccine was approved for emergency use by the Iranian health ministry on June 13.

Khamenei said he did not want to use non-Iranian vaccines so he waited for the Iranian vaccine.

He also expressed gratitude toward the people who worked to develop the vaccine.

“The vaccine is manufactured by the Barakat Foundation, an affiliate of Iran’s Headquarters for the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order (HEIKO).

“HEIKO is a state-owned enterprise under the direct control of the country’s Supreme Leadership Authority,” he said.

On Monday, the spokesman for HEIKO Hojjat Niki Maleki said that the organisation is expected to produce 20 million doses per month of the vaccine by October. (Xinhua/NAN)
