POLITICAL advisor to the Iraqi prime minister Fadi al-Shamri has accused the West of widening the conflict and stoking tensions in the Middle East.

Al-Shamri accused the West in a post he made on Twitter, now X.

This came after the U.S. and its allies launched military strikes against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The West keeps talking about defending “human and animal rights’’ but this is hypocritical as it is clear they have no regard for Palestinian women and children and civilians in Gaza.

The West “has committed another folly by widening the conflict and stoking tensions in the region while it urges others for self-restraint and de-escalation,’’ he wrote.

Since the eruption of the Gaza war between Israel and Islamist Hamas in October, pro-Iranian militias in Iraq have repeatedly claimed attacks against U.S.-manned bases in Iraq and neighbouring Syria. (dpa/NAN)
