THE Israeli military said on Sunday that dozens of fighter jets have carried out airstrikes in Yemen in a large-scale operation aimed at Houthi militants.

The air raids targeted energy facilities and an oil dock in the Ras Isa and Hodaida ports where Houthi militants were said to have received Iranian weapons and military supplies, the Israeli military said on Sunday.

The information could not be independently verified.

The Israeli military said its airstrike – around 1,800 kilometres from the Israeli border – was carried out in response to the latest Houthi attack.

Late on Saturday, a rocket alarm was triggered again in several areas of central Israel and in coastal Tel Aviv when a missile was fired from Yemen.

The Israeli military said the rocket was intercepted before reaching Israeli territory.

The Iran-linked Houthi militia say their attacks are in solidarity with the Islamist Hamas movement in Gaza, with which Israel has been waging war for almost a year.

Israel last attacked Yemen in late July with airstrikes on the port of Hodeidah in response to a deadly Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv.

In the attack, a drone loaded with explosives had crashed into a house in the centre of the city, killing one man and injuring several people.

The Israeli Air Force’s retaliation on Hodeidah led to a massive fire and six deaths. (dpa/NAN)
