SAM Onyemelukwe, the Director, West Africa, and V.P Global Business Development, Trace TV has opined that it’s wrong for upcoming acts to spend millions on collaborations with celebrated music acts.
Onyemelukwe, during a recent interview, said it is a terrible idea for upcoming artists to spend millions on collaboration with A-list artists.
“I think it’s a terrible idea. Like I said If you’re putting out music and one of your songs catches and you start to see a different reaction to that song maybe then you can start considering a collabo or a music video but let it catch, don’t just record one and go.”
The showbiz man also has advised upcoming artists to remain consistent and dedicated to pushing out new content and good music.
that while international record labels are currently in Nigeria in search of talents, they do not literally want to invest in musicians with no visible content.
He noted that for artists to be discovered, they must have songs out there and constantly be in the business of making good and quality music.
“If you want Universal, Sony, Empire, or the big Nigerian labels to notice you, they need guys putting stuff out. So you gotta make yourself visible and even if you don’t have the money you have to make yourself visible. I know it’s not easy but for now, do it with what you can.
“Many artists don’t have money but you can’t sit and get annoyed that nobody is sponsoring you, you can go to the local radio station, go to the restaurant down the road and start performing every week and maybe eventually start making 50k every night when you perform and 300k per month.”
