IWD: Headfort Foundation urges women to speak out against domestic violence, others

As the International community marked the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD), Headforth Foundation has urged women in the country to speak out against Gender Based Violence (GBV) and to get involved in programmes aimed at social engineering.

The foundation made the call at a workshop to mark the IWD 2024 at Ketu market, a suburb of Lagos.

Speaking at the occasion, Mauyon Amosu. Head of Legal for the foundation urged women to speak out against GBV and other forms of domestic violence.

Amosu advised women to resolve conflicts among themselves outside going to report to the police.

According to her. Women need to get involved in politics and other social events.

She stresse that victims of domestic violence need to speak up and ask for help. She added that there is help everywhere.

Amosu admonished victims of domestic violence to leverage the service offerings of the foundation and other NGOs in the space to seek redress.

She reminded the women of their importance in the society and the need to be of help to one another in moments of crises.

Also, Blessing Nyoyoko, a member of the Headfort foundation team advised the women on the legal aspects of their businesses.

Nyoyoko urged them to ensure that their businesses were registered, adding that they could leverage the foundation’s services to interpret any business agreement before signing in.

One of the beneficiaries of the workshop, Ms Precious Chizoba, a trader, said that she learnt about the need to keep records of her business in case of loan offers.

She expressed gratitude to the foundation for the workshop.

The workshop had about 60 women in attendance.
