IWD: ICSAN advocates tech. exploration to advance gender rights

THE Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has stressed the need to leverage and explore technology to actualise the expectations of gender rights.
The ICSAN President, Mr Gbenga Owokalade, said this at a news conference on Wednesday in Lagos to commemorate the 2023 International Women’s Day (IWD).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that IWD is annuallay marked on March 8 to celebrate the achievements of women and address issues that hinder women development across the globe.
The 2023 IWD has “DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” was apt, trendy and
forward-looking and advocates for greater respect for women’s rights.
He added that the theme is remarkable for its recognition of how technology could be explored to realise the expectations of gender rights.
Owokalade said that innovation and technology are appropriate tools in the policy of gender mainstreaming, hence the need to tap into it for the realisation of a just, equitable, and androgynous society.
He said that technological initiatives had become the modern culture and stressed the need to concentrate on leveraging it to advance human causes such as social justice, equal right and inclusive development.
He added that “there is no gainsaying the fact that women have made great contributions to the digital world since its advent and have continued to contribute in remarkable ways to its advancement.
“Let me also use this opportunity to congratulate the womenfolk the world over on the occasion of this year’s IWD celebration.
“I also want to thank the United Nations for the phenomenal support and promotion it has given to women’s right over the years.
“Our women are our partners in the quest for societal advancement and sustainable development and we must always be conscious of carrying them along in the journey for human progress.”
