THE President of Albinism Association of Nigeria, Jake Epelle, has called for improved coverage of the programmes and activities of persons with disability in the country.
Epelle, the Executive Director, TAF AFRICAT, who spoke via zoom in a virtual engagement with reporters & correspondents on engendering/deepening inclusive reporting of electoral and democratic governance issues, stated that more attention and proper news coverage should be given to all persons with disability.
He acknowledged the vital roles the media can play in projecting the involvement and contributions of persons with disability in many spheres of life and sectors of the economy.
Epelle also expressed optimism that if opportunities are offered to the members of his association, they would perform better in governance.
The event, which was hosted recently at the International Press Centre, IPC, Lagos, had participants from both the online publications, print and media houses from across the country.
Earlier in her Welcome remarks, Melody Akinjiyan, Programme Officer, IPC, told the participants of the need for inclusive reporting of electoral and democratic issues.
She stressed that reporters should ensure swift and timely reporting of news.
The Lead Presentation by Prof Jide Jimoh of the Department of Journalism, School of Communication, Lagos State University, was on the ‘Imperatives of Mainstreaming Women, Youths and Disability Groups in Democratic Reporting’.
