Jigawa anti-graft agency solicits for media support

THE Chairman of Jigawa Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Malam Salisu Abdu, has solicited for the support of the media in the fight against corruption.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abdu said this when he visited the Management of Radio Jigawa and two other stations in Dutse on Friday.
He said that media had critical role to play in ensuring the success of the commission’s anti-corruption campaigns, hence his visit to broadcast media in the state to explore areas of collaborations.
The chairman added that media would serve as vehicle through which the commission could reach out to the people in the state to educate them on the consequences of corrupt practices.
‘’The gesture is also part the commission’s strategies of prevention corruption before it occurs.
“One of the strategies of the commission is engaging in rigorous public enlightenment and education on the dangers of corruption as way of prevention of the menace in the society.
“The critical areas may be education and awareness through your various medium to educate people on dangers of corruption, its implication and consequences and that is one area that we will want partner with you.
“And I believe if our activities are disseminated to members of the public by the media, it would be easier for us to do our job,” Abdu said.
He said that the agency was established by Public Complaint and Anti- Corruption Law no. 1, 2022 and inaugurated by Gov. Umar Namadi in February, 2024 with the mandate of fighting corruption and financial crime in the state.
The chairman added that the commission had the responsibility of initiating investigations on corrupt related offences as well as to receive complaints on civil cases from individuals or group.
“However, this huge responsibility cannot be achieved without the support media through which people will be sensitised about the agency’s existence and how they can approach it with their complaints free of charge on any matter that they are aggrieved with.
NAN reports that also Abdu visited Freedom Radio and Horizon FM in Dutse.
