Jigawa tanker explosion: Shettima calls for review of safety protocols
Politics
VICE-President Kashim Shettima has called for a comprehensive review of fuel transportation safety protocols in the country, following a tanker explosion that claimed several lives in Jigawa on Tuesday.
Shettima, in a condolence message issued by his spokesperson, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, on Wednesday in Abuja, sympathised with families who lost loved ones in the tragic incident.
The Vice-President on behalf of President Bola Tinubu prayed that Almighty Allah grant the families the fortitude to bear the loss.
“My heart aches for those who have had their families torn apart by this disaster. This devastating incident has shaken us all to our core.
“The Federal Government stands with the people of Jigawa. We are mobilising all necessary resources to support the injured and assist the families affected by this calamity,” he said.
Shettima, therefore, directed the immediate deployment of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) personnel and resources to Jigawa.
“As we contend with this tragedy, let us also reflect on the importance of safety measures and public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Every life is precious, and we must do all we can to protect our citizens,” Shettima said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that no fewer than 90 people were confirmed dead, following a petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday night. (NAN)
