Jobless man docked for allegedly robbing trader of goods valued at N550, 000

A jobless man, Ademola Ajonijebu, on Friday appeared at an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly robbing a trader of his goods worth N550,000.
Ajonijebu, 40, is facing charges of conspiracy and stealing before Magistrate, Mrs Bukola Mogaji.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjour Perezi, said the defendant committed the offences with one other still at large on June 17 at Oloyomekun Global Transport Ltd. at No 436, Ikorodu Road, Ojota, Lagos.
Perezi said the defendant stole the items belonging to the complainant, one Mr Adeyemi Duduyemi.
“The defendant snatched her ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag containing jewelries, handbags, shoes and clothes .”
Perezi said the complainant, who was coming from the market, was waiting for a vehicle when the defendant and his cohort snatched the bag.
“The complainant raised alarm and some policemen on patrol arrived the the scene and caught the defendant with the bag, while the other escaped,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes three-years jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.
Mogaji granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that one of the sureties must be blood relation of the defendant, while the other surety should work at a reputable organisation.
Mogaji added that both sureties should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until July 15 for mention.
