THE Abia Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, has confirmed the rescue of a Chinese national, Mr Li Peiyin, who was abducted in the state on May 31.

Peiyin, who is the Site Manager of a quarry in Lokpanta, Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state, was reportedly abducted by yet-to-be identified gunmen near the quarry.

He was said to have left the site in a Caterpillar machine without his military attaches but could not return.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the machine was later seen with the key in its ignition.

Chinaka told NAN on Wednesday that the expatriate miner was rescued on Monday by a joint team of police and military personnel.

“He was rescued by a joint security team in good condition,” she said.

The command’s Spokesperson said that the team had sustained a manhunt for the abductors.

“The joint security personnel are on top of the situation,”she said.

She further said that no ransom was paid, adding, “Since he was rescued by joint security, you do not expect ransom to be paid.” (NAN)
