Former President Goodluck Jonathan holds a meeting with stakeholders in Bayelsa State to reconcile warring factions ahead of 2016 governorship election
ELDERS and major stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Bayelsa State have resolved to unite against the All Progressives Congress. APC, as well as rally round former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State. This, they reasoned, would help the party to control and retain power in the forthcoming governorship elections polls in the state.
The decision was one of the resolutions reached at a reconciliation meeting convened by Jonathan at his country home, Otuoke in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The elders decried the attitude of some persons close to the former president in Abuja and some governorship aspirations whom, they alleged, were using their offices to undermine the Dickson and the PDP. They claimed that some of the renegades had even built parallel governments to fight the state governor as well as the party.
The meeting, which was presided over by Jonathan, also constituted a three-man committee headed by Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, a former governor of the state, to reconcile all aggrieved groups and individuals to ensure a united and a more cohesive PDP that would be strong and formidable in all ramifications, to face and subdue the opposition in the state.
The committee, which has also A. J. Turner and Thompson K. Okorotie as members, was given two weeks within which to complete its assignment and submit a report to the larger house.
The committee, however, advised all governorship aspirants under the platform of the PDP in the state to bury their ambitions and support Dickson for re-election.
