THE Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria, NPAN, has expressed deep concern over the abduction of two journalists, Abdulgafar Alabelewe and AbdulRaheem Abdu, correspondents for The Nation and Blue Print newspapers respectively in Kaduna state.
The journalists, along with their families, including wives and children, were seized by unknown abductors last weekend. The prolonged silence from the abductors has heightened fears for their safety.
NPAN President, Kabiru A. Yusuf, called on the Federal Government to deploy all necessary security assets to ensure the safe return of the journalists and their families.
The association condemned the abduction, describing it as “traumatic” for both the biological and professional families of the victims.
NPAN appealed to the abductors to release the hostages unharmed, saying “We stand in sympathy with the families and pray for their safe return.”
The incident has sparked widespread concern in the media industry, with calls for increased protection for journalists and their families.
