JUSTICE Peter Umeadi, chief judge of Anambra State, has applauded the state government for putting measures in place to enhance the independence of the judiciary in the state.

Umeadi said this during a thanksgiving service to mark the commencement of the 2017/18 Judiciary `Legal Year in Anambra State’ at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka.

He explained that the action had put the judicial arm in a better position to be self-sustaining.

Umeadi pledged the commitment of the judiciary in ensuing efficient service-delivery in the sector.

Earlier in a sermon, Alexander Ibezim, Anglican bishop of Awka Diocese, described the judiciary as critical in ensuring the dispensation of justice in the society.

He urged judiciary workers to be upright and to refrain from denying justice to the poor.

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State pledged to help in addressing issues confronting the judiciary in the state.

He reiterated his administration’s readiness to provide the judiciary with modern electronic facilities that would aid workers in the discharge of their duties more efficiently.
