2 men bag 6 months imprisonment each for stealing items worth N2.2m

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday sentenced two men, Micheal Daniel, and Smith Ajao, to six months imprisonment each for stealing 52 computer monitors and other valuables worth over N2.2 million.

The Magistrate, Mrs Temitope Obasanjo, did not give the convicts any option of fine.

Daniel and Ajao, of no fixed addresses, had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. Idowu Ogunleye, had told the court that the accused persons and others now at large, committed the offences on Sept. 30, at about 11 p.m. at Dorf Royal Event Centre, Asero, Abeokuta.

Ogunleye said that Daniel, a maintenance officer at the Dorf Centre, conspired with his friend Ajao and broke into the computer centre through the ceiling.

He alleged that the accused persons stole 52 computer monitors, valued N2million and an apple 6H iphone, valued at N150,000.

He listed the other items as a pumping machine, valued at N42,000 and other items worth N49,000.

According to the prosecutor, all the items valued at N2,241,000, are property of Titilola Ero,  the director of the company.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006. (NAN)
