A conductor, who allegedly burgled some houses in the Magodo Phase 2 area of Lagos and stole property items valued at N593, 000 was on Wednesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, Afeez Taiwo, who claims to be a bus conductor and has no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

He, however, denied committing the offences.

But the Police Prosecutor, Lucky Ihiehie, said the accused committed the offences on Nov. 15 at the Magodo Phase 2 area of Lagos.

Ihiehie said the Security personnel at the Magodo Estate main gate brought the accused to the Magodo Police Station with a bag containing some stolen items which included a laptop, an Iphone, a Nokia phone, and a Nikkon camera.

“They reported that the accused was accosted when going out of the estate at about 5:30 p.m. following a red alert that there was a burglary in the estate.

“The accused was on the run for a while when he was discovered and even ransacked a car to change his clothes before he was caught,” he said.

Ihiehie also said that the accused had broken into the house of Ogunmola Ibukun and Aisha Abdulrahmon at Kayode Aluko Olokun Close, Magodo and stolen an Iphone valued at N110, 000 and a Samsung S7 phone worth N78, 000.

“He then proceeded to Ajumobi Crescent, Magodo and broke into the house of Oluwole Oyedepo and stole a Nikkon digital camera, valued at N35, 000.

“He finally went to Folorunsho Kazeem Close, Off Kayode Taiwo Street, Magodo and stole a laptop valued at N350, 000 and a Nokia Phone valued at N10, 000 and also 230 Ghanaian Cedis and N10, 000 cash belonging to Owolabo Olayinka.

“All items stolen by the accused were estimated at N593, 000 before he decided to call it a day and was caught trying to escape with them,’’ the prosecutor said.

The offences contravene Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs E. Kubeinje, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties each, who must be gainfully employed with tax payments and verification.

The case was adjourned until Jan. 1, 2019, for mention.
