AN Idi- Ogungun Customary Court sitting in Ibadan, on Tuesday dissolved a 15-year-old marriage between Lola, and her husband, Lawal Adekunle on the grounds of husband’s uncaring attitude.

Lola told the court that since they got married, they had either been living in her husband’s parents’ or grandparents’ house.

She said Adekunle had never been a responsible husband and father.

Lola alleged that her husband was also fond of beating her up at the slightest provocation.

“We moved to his father’s house from his grandparents’ house with the hope that the beating will stop, especially since one of the series of beating had led to the death of our first baby, but all was to no avail.

“Since my husband was not gainfully employed, I secured a loan for him to buy a taxi. He, however, wrecked everything he had going for him on gambling,’’ she said.

Lola, who made it clear to the court that they had both parted ways three years ago and were both remarried, said she was only in court to formalise their divorce.

This, she said, would hopefully bring an end to the frequent disturbances and problems from Adekunle.

“He is always going to the children’s school and taking them to his house, which is causing me a lot of problem.

“The last time he took the first child, the child returned home complaining that his father did not allow him to go to school.

“The child also said they slept on a verandah, because his father did not have an apartment,’’ she said.

She, therefore, pleaded with the court to dissolve the union in order to stop him from disturbing the three children produced through the union.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the husband, Adekunle, refused to appear in court in spite of being summoned three times.

The President of the court, M. B. Balogun, therefore, dissolved the marriage in his absence, ordering him to pay N12, 000 as monthly upkeep for the children.

Balogun also ordered Adekunle to be alive to his responsibility of paying the children’s school fees.

“A copy of judgment will be served to Adekunle for him to be aware of the court’s decision,’’ he said. (NAN)
