A Kano Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a 41-year-old blacksmith, Alhassan Bala, in prison custody accused of defiling a 12-year-old girl.

The accused, who resides at Zango Quarters Kano, is charged with rape, an offence that is contrary to section 283 of the penal code.

Chief Magistrate Muhammad Jibril ordered the remand of the accused in prison pending legal advice from the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He adjourned the case until Jan. 28, for further mention.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Pogu Lale, had told the court that one Aisha Sa’idu of Rimin Kebe Quarters Kano, reported the matter at Shahuci Police Division Kano, on Dec. 19, 2018.

Lale said that the accused on the same date at about 3.30 p.m. deceived and lured the complainant’s 12-year-old daughter into an isolated place at Rimin Kebe Quarters Kano and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
