Court remands water vendor over alleged killing of colleague

AN Ilorin Magistrates’ court, on Monday, ordered for the remand of Ibrahim Mohammad, 30, a water vendor, in Federal Prison Yard, on a count charge of culpable homicide.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Nasir Yusuf, told the court that on Feb. 2, information was received at Divisional Police Headquarters, Ilorin, that two men selling water on wheel-barrow, engaged in a fight.

Yusuf said that the two water vendors, named Ibrahim Mohammed and Ali Sadiq, both of Fate area, Ilorin, had a misunderstanding at Oloyede house, GRA, where they were fetching water.

He said that during the quarrel, Mohammed brought out a knife and stabbed Sadiq on his neck and ran away.

The Prosecutor said that on the strength of the information, investigation led to the arrest of the fleeing Mohammed, in his hideout at Jebba, Niger state.

The Prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the accused, who hailed from Kebbi, confessed that Sadiq was always beating him and used the knife to defend himself.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provision of section 221 of the penal code law.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The Magistrate, Mr Mohammed Salihu, ordered that the accused be remanded in Federal Prison Yard, till Feb. 28, when the case would come up for further mention. (NAN)
