Man, 33,docked for allegedly collecting N141,000 under false pretence

A 33-year-old man,  Abolaji Abiodun, was on  Wednesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun for allegedly collecting N141,000 under false pretence to supply building materials to one Tunde Emmanuel.

Abiodun, who lives at No. 12,  Ilo-Awera, Ota, is facing a charge of obtaining money under false pretence.

The Prosecutor, Insp  Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 4 at Iyana-Iyesi, Ota.

She said that the accused collected the money under the pretence of supplying building materials to  Emmanuel, an obligation which he did not fulfil.

Samson said that the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs B. S. Abdulsalam, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Ogun government.

The magistrate  adjourned the case till Nov. 21 for further hearing.
