A surety, Collins Agu, who allegedly failed to produce an accused, was on Thursday docked before an Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Forty-five-year-old Agu, whose address was not provided, was arraigned on a one count charge of failure to produce an accused for whom he stood as surety.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to charge.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the surety committed the offence on Sept. 20.
Famuyiwa said that Agu stood as surety to one Anthony Nwakwama charged with stealing in Ikorodu.
She told the court that the surety was unable to provide Nwakwama when need in court, in contravention of Section 97 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (Revised)
Chief Magistrate E O. Ogunkanmi admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The chief magistrate adjourned the case until Nov. 27, for mention. (NAN)
