THE Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal sitting at Awka has dismissed two petitions challenging the election and return of Governor Willie Obiano during the November 17, 2017 gubernatorial election.

In a unanimous judgment delivered by Justice H. A. Olusiyi, chairman, the tribunal held that the petitions lacked merit as the petitioners failed to adduce credible evidence to substantiate the petitions.

It upheld the preliminary objections raised by the respondents challenging the competence of the petitions.

The tribunal had held that the petitions were incompetent and consequently struck them out.

With the said judgment, the election and return of Obiano was upheld and validated by the tribunal.

The tribunal in judgement read by Olusiyi said: “the court cannot therefore, engage in any voyage discovery to substantiate the allegation and therefore struck the petition for want of evidence.’’
