KADA Queens Basketball Club of Kaduna on Wednesday appealed to the state government for the release of funds to pay players their 20 months outstanding allowances.

The Head Coach of the club, Samson Simsim, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna, said the players had made a lot of sacrifices for the team and needed to be paid their allowances.

“We are appealing to the state government to release funds so that we can pay these players their 20 months allowances.

“These players have tried by playing since last season without getting any allowances throughout and this season too.

“They have a good standing in the Zenith Bank Women Basketball League by being second on the table in spite of the challenges of lack of allowances,” he said.

Simsim said the state government should consider the sacrifice and assist by releasing the funds for the players payment.

“I am appealing to the state government to help us to release funds to pay these players.

“Attending the second phase of the league is very difficult as we sought for assistance elsewhere.

“The players boycotted training two days to the commencement of the league over unpaid allowances that we had to beg them before they listened to us and returned.

“From the five games played so far in the second phase, we lost one and won four which gives us a better standing on the league table,” he said.

According to him, the team aspires to qualify and play in the next final eight.

“This is our target and we are working towards it which by the grace of God is going to be possible.

“We need the support of the state government so as to pay their allowances and motivate them to do more in the final eight,” the coach said. (NAN)
