THE Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna State Chapter, Rev. John  Hayab, has urged Kaduna people to elect candidates with proven commitment to peace in the March 18 election.

Hayab made the call in a statement to newsmen in Kaduna on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly polls.

He said it was important to elect people who would give priority attention to peace, unity and development in the state.

”As we go out to vote, let’s consider candidates who possess the character to promote peace and unity in the state.

“We commend residents of the state for their peaceful conduct during the Presidential and National Assembly elections,” he said.

The CAN chairman said that the March 18 election provided the people an opportunity to freely decide who would govern them.

”So it is left for us to decide what we want by voting for leaders that will improve our fortunes and build a safe and prosperous state,” he said.

Hayab urged INEC to play the role of an unbiased umpire, and adhere strictly to the provisions of the Electoral Act.

”INEC should be neutral, just and truly independent. It should perform its roles in line with the provision of the law,” he said.

He urged the security agencies to be truly patriotic by providing a safe environment for the people to freely exercise their franchise.(NAN)
