THE Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Thursday distributed tablet computers to 93 primary school teachers as incentives to promote brilliance and outstanding performance.
The beneficiaries were 49 teachers that scored 90 per cent and above in the competency test conducted in December 2021; 23 jolly phonics teachers that excelled in their work and 21 technical teachers.
The Executive Chairman of the Board, Mr Tijjani Abdullahi, also said during the distribution in Kaduna, that the gesture was to promote the use of Information and Communications Technology in teaching and learning.
“The effort is to reward teachers who excelled in the competency test conducted in 2021 to motivate them to do better in improving the learning outcomes of pupils.
“The tablet computers will also help develop the capacity of teachers to become digital oriented and support the government’s ICT agenda.
“Classrooms are important; instructional materials are important but without a good teacher all the investment will remain wasted.
“Kaduna SUBEB will continue to motivate teachers and support them with the needed ICT tools to make their job easier and impactful, to improve learning outcomes in basic schools,” Abdullahi said.
He said that competency test conducted in 2021 was to identify gaps, adding that the board was doing all it could to address the identified gaps.
The commissioner for Education, Hajiya Halima Lawal, said that the government was doing all it could to give teachers the teachers deserved attention, to improve their capacity to deliver on their task.
Lawal commended the teachers for their hard work and urged them to continue and be an example to their peers and to convince them to key for more rewards.
She also commended the leadership of Kaduna SUBEB for the glaring impact their work was making.
Some of those who spoke to NAN, commended Kaduna SUBEB and the state government for the gesture, describing the support as very encouraging.
One of them, Ms Lulu Ma’aji, said: “I am over the moon, very happy, very excited and grateful to the Kaduna state government for the gesture.
“I am a jolly phonics teacher and I really need the tablet computer to be able to teach my pupils properly. Beside this, I am also the Examination Officer in my school.
“This will help to document children’s scores after examination.”
On his part, Aliyu Mohammed also said he was excited, adding that the gadget would help him to deliver his lessons effectively and efficiently.
“The world has gone digital, so I need this to do research on how to develop myself,” he said. (NAN)
