Kaigama enjoins youth on discipline, humility

CATHOLIC Archbishop of Abuja Archdiocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama has urged youth to be focus, discipline and show humility at all times to attain greater height in the society.

He gave the advise on Saturday during his homily at the 2022 Abuja Archdiocesan Youth Day organised by the Catholic Youth Commission.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event had Catholic Youths drawn from parishes of the five Area Councils of the FCT.

The theme of the event is “Mary Arouse and went with Haste, extracted from Luke chapter 1verses 39”.

According to him, good virtues such as obedience and showing humility leads to been focused and sacrificing for Christ which amounts to success.

He commended the youths for sacrificing their all for Christ, saying it is a sure way of succeeding in life.

The Archbishop admonished the youth to returned to Christ from any fallen part in their lives, to make up with Christ and help build a crime free society.

He prayed God to help the youth as they refuse to follow the wordily way but the Godly way.

“In spite of the many challenges in the world and as the youths were mostly affected, they have not given up.

“I must commend and bless you as Christ will reward and never forsake you,” he said, and enjoined them to pray for the clergies as they might face temptations.

‘When you hear of any wrong act by any priest, don’t celebrate, mock and share it around, don’t give up on their teachings but pray to encourage  them that if they fall, they should stand and over came,” he added.

Kaigama, who quoted the Holy Bible Book of Roman Chapter 15 Verse 5 to encourage the youth more, said: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had.”

In his remarks, Rev. Fr  Moses Akuhwa, Chairman, Youth Commission Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja  said the theme was a reminder to young people of the need of urgency in everything that concerns them.

“It is not just the spiritual aspect but also their own practical lives, as they go about living their lives”.

He said the youth had their own peculiar challenges and they were unique in their own way, adding that they were being gathered annually to have an interaction with the bishop,.

“Let them express their anxiety and talk about their aspirations and desires.

“The archbishop in turn advises and encourage them to be steadfast in their struggle and quest to build a better life, society and the church.

“We have a very strong message for our young people that they must know and understand that they will have to change their leader soon.

” They must understand that they must go out on elections day, avoid any electoral malpractice and elect leaders who will be able to handle the affairs of our country and carry them along to the right direction, bringing us the peace that we desire and pray for.”

Also speaking, Fr Solomon Uko, Executive Director, Justice Development and Peace Commission advised the youth to remain steadfast.

He advise them to use their energies for what was right as God continues to strengthen them.

Some of the partipants said the conference would further strengthen their believe and reawaken their faith.

Mr Peter Adubi, a participant said they have this annual interaction with the archbishop avail them opportunity to voice out their challenges and list their successes.

For her part, Miss Deborah Usman, Secretary, Catholic Youth of Nigeria, St Gabriel’s Parish Duste, said they were taught morals and values to imbibe.

She said they were warned against electoral violence and other social vices.

NAN also reports that all offerings and thanksgiving proceeds by the youths were donated to flood victims to help alleviate their sufferings. (NAN)
