THE Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law the Bill seeking to upgrade the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, to a full-fledged University of Education.

The bill was passed after scaling the third reading by the House, led by Alhaji Hamisu Chidari, on Tuesday in Kano.

The House also passed the Pension and Gratuity law 2023 that allows Kano civil servants to serve for 35 years and retire at the age of 65 years and the Kano state traffic amendment law 1963.

Speaking shortly after plenary, Majority Leader of the House, Alhaji Labaran Madari, explained that the amended pension and gratuity law was to ensure adequate utilization of pension fund by the state’s Accountant General.

He said that the amendment of the traffic law would checkmate traffic violations, in addition to increasing revenue generation from road offenders and other relevant stakeholders.

“The Kano State Traffic amended law is outdated as it was enacted in 1963,” he explained.

Similarly, the House has also confirmed Dr Nazifi Bichi as Commissioner, and member of the State Executive Council.

The nominee scaled the screening and was duly confirmed by the House to be appointed as commissioner.

According to the speaker, Bichi had successfully fulfilled all the necessary criteria, and responded to questions during the screening.

In his remarks, the newly-confirmed commissioner thanked Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for the confidence reposed in him and promised to discharge his duties accordingly. (NAN)
