KANO State Government has urged farmers to embrace new innovations and technologies to boost crop production during the forth coming dry season activities.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Lamin Sani-Zawayya made the call in a statement by the spokesman of the ministry, Lawan Hamisu-Danhassan, on Tuesday in Kano.

Sani-Zawiyya, who spoke during a visit by members of the Forum of Heads of Agriculture Department of the 44 LGAs, said the importance of agriculture to social and economic development could not be over emphasised.

He said agriculture plays significant role in the provision of food and job opportunities among the people.

The Commissioner urged the Forum to evolve modern ways of farming, especially as farmers are now preparing for dry season activities.

While commending the Forum for the visit, the Commissioner assured government continued support towards achieving mass food production in the state.

Earlier, Chairman of the Forum, Alhaji Sulaiman Isyaku said the Forum had designed a farmer support plan to educate them on farming skills, preservation and processing technologies to avert food loss.(NAN)
