Kano State Govt. restates commitment to sports development

KANO State Government has restated its commitment to sports development as a strategic tool to position and empower youths in the state.
Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this on Tuesday in Kano during the 1st Sports Dialogue organised by Kano State Sports Commission at Nima Guest Palace.
The governor promised to ensure that the glory of the state as the primary centre for sports activities was restored.
Ganduje said the State Government established the Sports Commission and appointed seasoned sports administrator Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima as the chairman, to achieve the goal.
Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna, also added that the government had commenced reviving diffrent sports in the state as well as the development of facilities and promotion of sports activities.
“Our efforts have already started yielding results because the state contingent at the just concluded National Sports Festival performed very well,” he added.
The governor, who described the theme of the dialogue: ” Kano state sports yesterday, today and tomorrow”, as apt, urged well meaning individuals and private sector in the state to contribute their quota to sports development in the state and the country.
Earlier, the Chairman of the commission, Galadima, said it would do its best to bring back the lost glory of sports in the state.
He said that the state, over years, performed well in basketball and football, adding that it would improve in other sports also.
Galadima commended the governor for rebranding the sports architecture which resulted in the wonderful performance of the state in the sports festival.
The chairman commended the spirit of sportsmanship and team spirit displayed by the state contingent at the just concluded festival.
He called on individuals and organisations to develop sports in the state because government alone could not shoulder the responsibilities.
Other speakers at the event also urged people of the state to continue to work hard to actualise the government’ vision to move the State to the next level.
