THE last is yet to be heard of the fight that took place in the Kano State House of Assembly as a result of the feud between the state government led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and Mohammed Sanusi 11, the deposed emir of Kano.

On Monday, March 16, the Kano State House of Assembly suspended five of it members for six months in connection with a fight in the house on March 9, between supporters of the state government and the deposed emir of Kano.

Those affected are Garba Yau Gwarmai, representing Kunchi/Tsanyawa Constituency, Labaran Abdul Madari, Warawa Constituency, Isyaku Ali Danja of Gezawa Constituency, Mohammed Bello, representing Rimingado/Tofa constituency and Salisu Ahmed Gwamgwazo, representing Kano Municipal.

Realnews reports that Abdulazeez Gafasa, speaker of the House, stated that: “the five members were suspended for violating the rules of the house especially Order IV Sub 4 a, b, d and e disrupted the sittings of the house and prevented proceedings from going on. They behave violently and even attempted to snatch away the mace in a clear attempt to sabotage the sitting of the house.”

It should be recalled that last Monday trouble started in the house a few minutes after Hamza Ibrahim Ci-Dari, chairman, House Standing Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, raise observations regarding the two petitions against the emir which the House received penultimate week.

Immediately the chairman raised the issue, he was shouted down by some members of the House, particularly those belonging to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who insisted that it is against the rule of the House to raise an observation during plenary on a petition that is before a committee, which has not submitted its report.

Sequel to these members of the APC and PDP engaged in a free-for-all fight with the aim of taking over the control of the Mace, the symbol of authority of the parliament. It took the intervention of the Sergeant at Arms and security operatives to rescue the mace from the lawmakers while Gafasa postponed the meeting for 30 minutes.
